Ten Principle of Successes – It’s a well-known fact that the Prophet of Islam (ﷺ) was the supremely successful man in the entire mortal history. But he wasn’t just an idol, as Thomas Carlyle has called him. According to the Quran, he was a good illustration for all humanity. He has shown us the way to achieve great Success in this world.
By studying the life of the Prophet (ﷺ), we can decide on those important principles that were followed by the Prophet (ﷺ). In short, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was a positive thinker in the full sense of the word. All his conditioning was the result- acquainted. He fully abstains from all similar ways as may prove counter-productive.
• First Principle : (To begin from the possible) This principle is well explained in a byword of Aishah. She said, “ Whenever the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) had to choose between 2 options, he always decided on the easier choice. ”( Al- Bukhari).
Choosing the easy option means starting from the possible, and he who starts from the possible will surely achieve his goal.
• Second Principle : (To see advantages in disadvantages) In the early days of Makkah, there were numerous problems and difficulties. Then, a guiding verse was revealed in the Quran. It said “ With every difficulty there’s ease, with every difficulty there’s ease. ”(94/5- 6).
This means that if there are some problems, there are also openings at the same time. & The way to success is-to-ignore the problems & mileage the openings.
• Third Principle : (To change the place of action) This principle is deduced from the Hijrah. Hijrah wasn’t just a migration from Makkah to Madinah. It was to find a further suitable place for Islamic work, as history proved later on.
• Fourth Principle : (To make a friend out of an adversary) The prophet of Islam (ﷺ) was constantly subordinated to practices of enmity by the questioners. At that time Quraan enjoined upon him the return of good for evil. & also, as Quraan added, “ You’ll see your direst adversary has come to your closest friend ”(41/34).
It means that a good action instead of a bad action has the effect of defeating your enemies. & the life of the Prophet is literal evidence of this principle.
• Fifth Principle : (To turn minus into plus) After the Battle of Badr, about 70 of the questioners were taken as the captures of war. They were educated people. The Prophet (ﷺ) blazoned that if any one of them would educate ten Muslim children how to read and write, he’d be freed.
This was the first academy in the history of Islam in which all of the scholars were Muslims, & all of the preceptors were from the adversary rank. Then I shall quote a British orientalist who remarked about the Prophet of Islam (ﷺ) “ He faced adversity with the determination to wring success out of failure. ”
• Sixth Principle : (The power of peace is stronger than the power of violence) When Makkah was conquered, all of the Prophet’s (ﷺ) direst opponents were brought before him. They were war culprits, in every sense of the word.
But the Prophet (ﷺ) didn’t order to kill them. He simply said “ Go, you’re free. ” The result of this kind gesture was miraculous; they incontinently accepted Islam.
• Seventh Principle : (Not to be a dichotomous thinker) In the notorious Ghazwa of Muta, Khalid Bin Walid decided to withdraw Muslim forces from the battleground because he discovered that the adversary was disproportionately outnumbered. When they reached Madinah, some of the Muslims entered them with the word “ O Furrar ” (O defectors!) The Prophet said “ No. They’re Kurrar (men of advancement). ”
Those Madinan people were allowed to dichotomously, either fighting or retreating. The Prophet said no. There’s also a third option, and that’s to avoid war and find time to strengthen yourself.
Now history tells us that the Muslims, after three times of medication, advanced again towards the Roman border, and this time they won a resounding palm.
• Eighth Principle : (To bring the battle in one’s own favorable field) This principle is deduced from the Ghazwa of Hudaibiyya. At that time, the questioners were determined to engage Muslims in fighting, because obviously, they were in a profitable position. But the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), by accepting their conditions unilaterally, entered into a pact.
It was a ten-time peace convention. Until also, the meeting ground between Muslims and non-Muslims had been on the battleground. Now the area of conflict came that of ideological debate. Within two times, Islam surfaced as victorious because of the simple reason of its ideological superiority.
• Ninth Principle : (Gradualism rather than radicalism) This principle is well-established by a Hadith of Al-Bukhari. Aishah says that the first verses of the Quran were related substantially to heaven and hell. Also after a long time when the people’s hearts had softened, the specific commands to desist from infidelity and drinking were revealed in the Quran.
This is a piece of clear evidence that for social changes, Islam advocates the evolutionary system, rather than the revolutionary system.
• Tenth Principle : ( To be realistic in controversial matters) During the jotting of Hudaibiyya convention, the Prophet(ﷺ) mandated these words “ This is from Muhammad, the Messenger of God. ” The Quraishi delegate raised expostulations over these words. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) instantly changed the word and ordered to write simply Muhammad, son of Abdullah.
These were the principles through which the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) gained that success which has been honored by chroniclers as the supreme success.
In closing, I would like to repeat those ten principles of success

- To turn minus into plus
